Douglas County Historic Building Survey Long Range Plan & Survey Reports by Township

As historic building surveys are completed, information on individual properties and building is uploaded to the Kansas Historic Resources Inventory at: http://khri.kansasgis.org/ Historic Building Survey Reports are posted on the Douglas County website by township.

 

Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council Historic Survey Committee Long Range Plan for Township Surveys

Intensive Surveys have been completed in the following townships:

Wakarusa -      2013 HPF grant – Dale Nimz/Susan Ford (70 square miles)
Eudora -          2014 HPF grant - Hernly Associates, Inc. (50 square miles)
Kanwaka -       2014 HPF grant - Hernly Associates, Inc. (47 square miles)
Grant -             2015 HPF grant – Hernly Associates (20 square miles)
Palmyra -        2015 HPF grant – Hernly Associates (82 square miles)
Lecompton –  2016 HPF grant – Dale Nimz (35 square miles)
Willow Springs - 2018 HPF grant - Ben Moore Studios - (54 square miles)
Reconnaissance Surveys have been completed  in the following townships: 
  • Eudora (2012) (Dale Nimz/Susan Ford) (50 square miles)
  • Kanwaka (2012) (2013) (Dale Nimz/Susan Ford) (47 square miles)
  • Wakarusa (2013) (Dale Nimz/Susan Ford) (70 square miles)
  • Grant (2015) (Dale Nimz/Susan Ford) (20 square miles)
  • Palmyra (2015) (Dale Nimz/Susan Ford) (82 square miles)
  • Lecompton (2015) (Susan Ford/Dale Nimz) (35 square miles)
  • Willow Springs (2017) (Susan Ford) (54 square miles) (except for portion of township west side of 900 Road to Marion Township line)
  • Marion Township Reconnaissance Survey Phase I (included Willow Springs Township West of 900 Road to Marion Township line) (2018) (Hernly Associates, Inc.) (47 square miles)
  • Marion Township Phase II. This survey included portions of Marion Township beginning at N600 Rd and running south to the Franklin County line. It also included the western edge of Willow Springs Township west of E900 Road and continuing south to the Franklin County line.  (2019) (Hernly Associates, Inc.)

    Intensive Surveys Not Yet Completed

  • Marion (71 square miles) – The Marion Township Intensive Survey is scheduled to be completed by January 2021.
  • Clinton (41 square miles) – Planned for 2021-2022.
Reconnaissance Survey Not Yet Completed
  • Clinton Twp. Recon and Intensive Surveys – To be completed 2020-2021.
Since 2012, approximately 2,600 buildings and other structures that appear to be at least 50 years old have been inventoried in Douglas County, Kansas.
