This morning (Oct. 26), a contractor working on the sprinkler system at the County Courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts Street, turned on sprinklers in the southeast corner of the building. This has led to water damage in the County Commission meeting room, Treasurer’s Office and Appraiser’s Office.
The Treasurer’s Office in the Courthouse is closed, but the South Iowa satellite location, 2000 W. 31st Street, is open and the $5 fee to use the location is being waived. If you need to renew your motor vehicle tag, here are some options:
• Online at https://ikan.ks.gov. Even if it’s the end of the month, you can still renew online! There is a 10-day grace period to allow the Treasurer’s Office time to process and mail a new registration receipt and decal. If customers have a payment receipt — printed or electronic — they can’t be charged with failing to display a registration decal.
• By mail at P.O. Box 884, Lawrence, KS 66044.
• By drop box at 2000 W. 31st St. or 1100 Massachusetts St., both in Lawrence.
The audio/video system in the County Commission meeting room in the Courthouse is not working due to water damage. The public is strongly encouraged to attend today’s work session at 4 p.m. and business meeting at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes our staff and the public. We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to get back to normal operations as soon as possible.
