Douglas County Legal Aid Society

The Douglas County Legal Aid Society (the Legal Aid Clinic at KU Law) offers no-cost legal assistance in a limited range of cases. All matters are handled by third year law students operating under Kansas Supreme Court Rule 719 with the supervision of KU Law clinical faculty. The types of cases handled include cases in which the clinic is appointed by the Lawrence Municipal Court to defend alleged misdemeanor crimes, cases in which the clinic is appointed by the Douglas County District Court to defend children charged with crimes, cases involving expungement of criminal records, and limited other related actions as determined by the clinic faculty, including cases of school discipline or child representation that may arise in connection with a juvenile defense case. Douglas County Legal Aid Society does not currently handle domestic relations, landlord/tenant, or public assistance cases. (Source: http://lawrenceks.org/attorney/legal_aid).
