County Launches Recycling Drop-off Program

This week, Douglas County is launching a pilot project for drop-off recycling bins in the unincorporated areas of the County.  Four pilot locations in the unincorporated area are:

  • Prairie Moon Waldorf School (1853 E 1600 Rd)
  • Stull United Methodist Church (1592 E 250 Road)
  • Vinland Fair Site parking lot (711 E 1750 Rd)
  • Wakarusa Valley School (1104 E 1000 Rd)

At each of the locations, there will be two recycling containers.  One container will be for cardboard only, and one container will accept mixed materials.  The following materials can all be placed in the mixed materials container:

  • Newspaper
  • Office paper
  • Envelopes
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines
  • Catalogs
  • Telephone books
  • Cardboard
  • Chipboard

  • Rigid plastics (#1-7)
  • Plastic bottles
  • Dairy containers
  • Yogurt cups
  • Deli or salad bar clamshells

  • Aluminum cans
  • Steel (tin) food and beverage cans

  • Glass bottles and jars

County residents are encouraged to use these bins, and to help the County meet our recycling goals.  To learn about other materials and locations to recycle with the City of Lawrence’s Recyclable Materials Directory.
