Portions of N 1500 Road, N 1550 Road & E 1625 Road to be closed east of Lawrence

Tuesday, August 15, 2017 - 2:51pm

Beginning August 21, 2017, weather permitting, portions of N 1500 Road, N 1550 Road, and E 1625 Road east of the Lawrence city limits will be closed to all traffic for a construction project.  N 1500 Road (E. 15th Street extended) will be closed from just west of the BNSF railroad tracks to approximately 300 feet east of the E 1625 Road intersection.  N 1550 Road (E. 11th Street extended) will be closed just west of the E 1625 Road intersection.  E 1625 Road will be closed between N 1500 Road and N 1550 Road. We anticipate these road sections to remain closed until November 22, 2017.

A signed detour will be established utilizing Haskell Avenue, 23rd Street/K-10 highway, and Route 1057 (E 1900 Road).  Access to East Hills Business Park is available via 23rd Street to O’Connell Road, north on O’Connell to Venture Park Drive, then east on Venture Park Drive to Gateway Circle.

The closures are for a construction project to replace the narrow culvert under N 1500 Road between the BNSF railroad tracks and the E 1625 Road intersection, and to replace the culvert under N 1550 Road just west of the E 1625 Road intersection.  In addition, the project includes relocating the channel along the west side of E 1625 Road to provide additional clear zone distance between the roadway and the channel.

The Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract in the amount of $665,184.20 to the low bidder, King’s Construction, for this project.  Funding for the project comes from Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program.
