Douglas County traffic court resumes after more than a year

Wednesday, May 19, 2021 - 10:06am

The District Attorney’s Office wants to notify the public that Douglas County traffic court is again being held at 8:15 a.m. every Friday.

Traffic court had been on hold since March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because there is confusion regarding the reopening of traffic court, the DA’s Office is not currently requesting that the court issue driver’s license suspensions or warrants for failing to appear. The ultimate decision, however, rests with the court.

Anyone issued a citation with an appearance date should appear in court on the date and time shown unless you resolve the citation through plea or diversion ahead of time or are notified your case has been dismissed.

Anyone with an outstanding citation may contact the District Attorney’s Office at 785-838-2443 or datraffic@douglascountyks.org. The office cannot provide legal advice but can provide information about scheduled court appearances and discuss potential resolutions to the case.  This office is committed to making the traffic court process as smooth as possible.
