Electronics recycling event scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24

Need to get rid of an old TV, phone or computer? The Lawrence & Douglas County Sustainability Office has teamed up with Teknix Solutions to offer an Electronics Recycling event. The event will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the KU parking lot at the northwest corner of Iowa Street and Clinton Parkway.

Materials that will be accepted:

  • Anything with a cord or battery, including, but not limited to:
  • computers, laptops, monitors, speakers, keyboards, mice, servers,
  • microwaves, TVs, gaming systems,
  • light fixtures (not bulbs! see list below), (non-PCB) ballasts,
  • steroes, radios, phones, audio/visual equipment,
  • lab equipment, cables, battery backup systems,
  • other small appliances, and
  • CDs, VHS and cassette tapes

CRT TVs and monitors will be accepted for a fee of $15 per unit for 19 inches or smaller; and $30 per unit for 20 inches or greater. Teknix will accept cash or check only.

During the fall 2018 event, 751 vehicles dropped off 62,397 pounds of electronics recycling.
