Beginning Monday, March 25, weather permitting, Queens Road (East 1000 Road) will be closed to through traffic from the Wakarusa Drive intersection to Route 438 (North 1800 Road; Farmers Turnpike).
The closure is for a project to repair the concrete deck of the bridge carrying East 1000 Road over Baldwin Creek. The bridge is located approximately a quarter of one mile south of North 1750 Road. Douglas County Public Works Department staff anticipate a 45-day duration for the road closure, weather permitting.
Public Works Director and County Engineer Keith Browning said the project includes removing and patching areas of deteriorated concrete in the bridge deck, and overlaying the bridge deck with concrete. The project will extend the life of the 43-year-old bridge.
The Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract in the low bid amount of $166,930.86 to Comanche Construction for the project, which also includes deck repairs for a bridge on North 1750 Road approximately three quarters of one mile east of East 1000 Road. Repairs for the North 1750 Road bridge will follow the East 1000 Road bridge repairs, and will require closure of a portion of North 1750 Road.
