Registering to Vote in Kansas

How you can register to vote in the State of Kansas.

Required fields include:

  • First and Last Name
  • Date of Birth (month, day and year)
To register to vote online, you must have a valid Kansas driver's license or nondriver's identification card, as you are required to use a legal signature to complete the registration process. The online registration option uses your driver's license signature to do so. If you do not have either of these Kansas identification cards, you will need to complete a voter registration application available below. You must re-register each time you change your name, address, or party affiliation for voting, otherwise the Election Office will have outdated information. To register to vote online, please visit the Kansas Online Voter Registration Application.
Any change to your Kansas voter registration should use a Kansas voter registration application form, which we have available below. There are three ways to submit your application:
  • Print out the Voter Registration Application, complete, sign and mail or hand deliver application to the Douglas County Election Office, 1100 Massachusetts St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
  • Fax the completed and signed application to (785) 832-5192.
  • Scan the completed and signed application then email to elections@douglas-county.com

Kansas law does require new registrants that use the State of Kansas Voter Registration Application to provide proof of citizenship when they register to vote. We recommend you send a copy of your proof of citizenship document directly to our office to assure successful submission. For a complete list of acceptable documentation, please visit our Proof of Citizenship Requirement for Voter Registration page.

RULES CONCERNING VOTER REGISTRATION APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED WITHOUT PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP

This notice covers persons who have applied to register to vote and have not yet provided proof of citizenship. Due to recent court rulings, if you have applied to register to vote at a Kansas Division of Motor Vehicles office or if you have applied to register to vote using the “Federal Form” voter registration application (as opposed to the standard ‘state form’) and have not yet provided proof of citizenship, you are registered to vote for the November 8, 2016, general election. Your name will appear on the poll book for your voting location and you will be given a standard ballot. There is nothing further you need to provide for the November 8, 2016, general election.

If you have questions concerning your eligibility or this notice you may contact the Douglas County Election Office at 785-832-5267 or elections@douglas-county.com or the Secretary of State’s office at (800) 262-8683.
