Paralegal II - Adminstrative Support Specialist

The District Court Trustee is accepting applications for a full-time Paralegal II - Administrative Support Specialist. This is a highly responsible position primarily providing support to the Court Trustee in the collection of court debt and restitution assessed in Douglas County criminal cases. Some duties related to child support enforcement may be assigned. Duties include, but are not limited to:  

  • Preparation and review of legal documents, letters and payment plans
  • Supervision of work flow and review of work product of criminal collections staff
  • Telephonic communication with debtors who owe restitution
  • Analyzing cases to identify appropriate collection action
  • Proofreading documents and letters
  • Scanning and e-filing legal documents 
  • Skip tracing
  • Working closely with other district court offices
  • Performing legal research relating to both criminal collections and child support enforcement and keeping abreast of changes in the law
  • General office duties and special assignments as needed

Qualifications:  Paralegal Certificate or Associates Degree in Legal Studies; excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills; efficiency in computer skills (Excel, Word, and Outlook); proofreading skills; attention to detail; excellent communication skills and organizational skills; and ability to multi-task, work independently, and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications: 2 years legal experience in the area of criminal law or collection law.

Starting Salary and Benefits: 
$16.59/hour with potential step increases at 6 months to $17.00 and at 12 months to $18.29. Excellent working environment and benefits that include health insurance and KPERS.
